About 170,000 UK children are exposed to clinically significant levels of lead. Only about 250 of them1 will receive any intervention to reduce that exposure.
This morning, the FT covered an open letter from Aveek Bhattacharya, Lee Crawfurd and me calling for universal lead screening in the UK. It’s been signed by six MPs and a Lord across five parties. We also have a new briefing with the Social Market Foundation expanding on why this is important.
The National Screening Committee has responded that they are “working on plans for a review [of screening requirements]”. It’s a start.
