It seems common for rich people to donate to set up buildings or institutes at universities in rich countries. This benefits the global advancement of knowledge. But would there be more global research benefit if rich people donated to set up institutes at universities in poor countries? I suppose this would help slow brain drain, and would buy more knowledge per dollar because salaries are much lower in poor countries.
